Basil A foglia di Lattuga
Ocimum basilicum
A variety of basil with very large ruffled leaves. Leaf length can exceed 10 cm. A very aromatic variety which produces a lot of leaf mass, making it very suitable for processing into pesto, etc. Also known as Neapolitan basil.
We can sow basil throughout the year in pots or crates and keep them indoors. We plant or sow it outside when the danger for saline has passed. Basil likes warm and sunny places, except when they are young - the sun can burn them. Basil doen't need watering, except if there is drought. If the plant is in pots we water it moderately - the soil has to be damp, not wet. The plants are stronger when they grow individually.
